Doing Your Part for a Better Tomorrow!

Going green is actually a pretty easy process.  There is no need to stress over making big, elaborate changes, just start with baby steps!  That is exactly what my family is doing.  We are making small changes that will eventually add up to huge benefits!  First we started recycling anything and everything that was recyclable.  We cut down on our energy intake by turning everything off that was not being used and by unplugging appliances that were not being used.  We have been diligently trying to conserve water by turning the faucet off while brushing our teeth and by taking no more than 10 minutes in the shower.  Next, we converted our home to safer, non-caustic products.  All of our cleaning and personal care products are safer for the environment, my family and my home, and they are all bio-degradable.  Visit http://www.gogreentoday.info to attend a free online webinar to learn more about the benefits of going green with safer products.

There are many other, simply ways, we can all be "green."  Below are just a few examples of simple changes:

1.  Replace paper napkins with cloth napkins
2.  Use old towels and dishrags in place of paper towels for cleaning
3.  Replace light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs
4.  Stop drinking individual water bottles

Everyone can do their part in helping to save our planet!

Learning Through Others

The other day I received an email from a wonderful friend.  She mentioned that her and a couple of her friends had a great conversation about wanting to "go green" in order to provide a better future for their children!  What a great conversation to have with someone.  In this day and age, there are SO many ways we can improve the quality of our environment; from recycling; to conserving energy; to the products we use.  My family and I work hard to ensure a better future for our environment.  We recycle whatever we can.  We do not waste electricity or water.  We use wonderful products that are non-toxic, non-caustic and biodegradable.  It's amazing what we can learn from others.  New ideas.  New strategies.  New you.

Can Sunscreen Cause Cancer?

It's that time of year!  Summer is the season of pool party's, beach party's, cook-outs and sunbathing!  Many people hope to achieve a nice golden glow to their skin, while others try very hard to avoid too much sun exposure, at all.  We are lectured on the importance of using sunscreen to avoid getting burned, premature aging, and more importantly, to protect our skin from the harmful cancer causing sun-rays!  Sunscreen has become a staple in most homes across the world in an effort to avoid the harmful affects of the sun.  But, can the sunscreen we are using cause cancer?

Studies suggest that there are toxic ingredients in sunscreens that can actually promote cancer rather than prevent it.  Additionally, by absorbing the chemicals found in most sunscreens, through the skin, they can block the body's absorption of ultra-violet radiation that produces Vitamin D, which studies have shown, prevent 77 percent of  all cancers.  Now, there is no saying for sure if sunscreens can, in fact, cause cancer, but a study in "April 2004 Journal of Chromatography found that there is significant penetration of all sunscreen agents they studied into the skin, and oxybenzone and metabolites across the skin. For that matter, anything you put on your skin will be absorbed into your body.  If you're going to use a sunscreen look for a natural alternative to commercial sunscreens that contain no petrochemicals, such as aloe vera gel; it works as a natural sunscreen, and helps heal a sunburn." healingdiva.com

Toxins and Autism

As parents, we really need to be aware of what our children are exposed to.  There are may toxins out there, in the environment, as well as products, that are harming our children.

Take a moment to view the link below.  This study is eye-opening and imperative for everyone to be made aware of!!

Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!

Being pro-active when it comes to recycling is one of the easiest things we can do to help the environment and to help protect natural resources from being depleted.

There are three major components to reducing your environmental footprint:  Reduce; Reuse; Recycle.

By cutting back on what we consume daily, including solid waste, energy, and water, we can help "reduce" our environmental footprint.

By finding other ways to "reuse" products for another purpose is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment.

Once an item has been used to it's max, and there is nothing else useful to do with it, recycle it!  There are many ways you can "recycle" products, such as curbside recycling and mail back programs.

"Communities as well as individuals are always looking for new ways to address the concern of reduction. The most common, cost-effective way is reducing household waste and recycling. According to the EPA, about 75 percent of what is found in the average garbage can is recyclable, and our national recycling rate hovers at around 14 percent, so there is definitely room for improvement." Newly Inspired and Motivated

My mother and I recently attended a launch in my area for the company I represent and it was absolutely FABULOUS!!!  The function room was filled with individuals at different stages and levels in their businesses.  It was so much fun to see so many others who share common goals and interests.  The presentation was wonderful and full of amazing information and provided much needed insight as what needs to be done in order to be successful and prosperous in the business! After hearing the success stories of so many, and seeing the dedication of many more to achieve their dreams, I feel a new sense of inspiration and motivation to be successful as well.  It is extremely important to me to get my business off the ground, but more importantly, to share this one-of-a-kind company and it's life changing products to as many people as possible!

Working My Home Based Business AND Enjoying the Great Outdoors

It's a beautiful day; the sun is shining in the clear blue sky, the birds are chirping, the kids are playing (nicely for a change!), and there is a light breeze to set the mood to a very pretty spring day!  I am thoroughly enjoying this weather and am able to do so right in my own backyard.  Now I know what's it's like to "work" from home while still enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors!  I finally purchased a laptop!!!  Before, I would be working from my home "office" (family room desk w/desk top computer!) in our finished downstairs (basement/dungeon) and not have the slightest inkling what was going on in the great outdoors, and more importantly, what mischief my 3 boys would be up to!  I love sitting in my backyard at my patio set with a delicious iced tea watching my kids play AND having the ability to work my home based business!  I am finally enjoying one of the MANY perks of working at home!

Wanting to Gain Self Confidence

I've been working from home for the past 8 (eight) months.  I enjoy working from home and having the flexibility to make my own hours and spend quality time with my children.  I enroll and train marketing executives for a registered pharmaceutical company, which has been inducted into the Inc 500 Hall of Fame. The company promotes health and wellness through its products. Our mission is to establish customer accounts and help people enhance the quality of their lives both personally and financially.  There is nothing better than helping someone reach their goals!  However, one of the most difficult tasks, for me, is approaching my warm market.  I know I have a information about something that could improve the quality of someones life, but my concern is the approach.  How should I approach someone, who is a friend or family member, without making them feel that it's something they "have" to do, just because I do?  I struggle with this daily.  I want so badly to help people, yet, I'm afraid to approach them with something that could, quite possibly, change their lives dramatically!

Why Going Green is So Important

I never gave "green" products a second thought.  I mean, I was an avid bleach user.  Now, bleach wasn't the only product I used, but if I really wanted to clean and disinfect, bleach was my "go-to" product of choice.  I wanted so much to provide my family with a clean house, that I would bleach everything to clean and disinfect.  What I ultimately learned is, I was contaminating my home, and putting my families health at risk by using bleach and other store brand products to clean my house.  It sickens me to think of all the toxic chemicals found in everyday products, from cleaning to personal care, and the harmful affects it can have on your health.  Did you know that 150 chemicals commonly found in the home have been linked to allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological abnormalities?  That's scary!  Did you know that many childrens products sold on the market today contain cancer causing chemicals?  Why would anyone want to expose their child to these products and put the childs health at risk?

I wanted to share this sight with everyone because it provides some great information.  http://www.just-green.org/

I am now an avid "green" product consumer and LOVE it!!  The products I use actually clean and disinfect my home better than the store bought brands.  I purchase all my products; cleaning, personal care, vitamins, etc., on line from an amazing "green" company whose been around for 25 years!  Their products are amazing and the value and savings are incredible!  I will NEVER go back to store brand products again!

HELP! Why does Toilet Traning Have to be So Hard?!

I have been trying desperately to toilet train my 4 1/2 year old son (yes...he's 4 1/2 and still refuses to use the toilet....I'm at a loss...), and on top of that, I am trying equally as hard to train our puppy to stop going to the bathroom in the house! UGH!! I've gotta be honest with you, I'm getting a wee bit tired of cleaning up pooh and tinkle ALL DAY LONG!!  I don't recall having toilet training issues with my older two sons (well, Matthew was different because he had his medical issues), but Luke did great with training!  It makes me wonder...did I do something differently with Matthew and Luke to encourage them to go on the toilet?  Nope...don't think so!  Blake is just very stubborn and doesn't want to take the time to stop doing what he's doing just to go into the bathroom!  Trust me, I've tried everything.  I've done the potty chart, sticker chart, sticker book, potty chocolate, money jar, marble jar, taking things away, time-outs, etc.  NOTHING seems to work!  But, I'm staying positive, well, trying to anyway.  Plus, having our puppy, Sophie, is no walk in the park either.  This is my family's first pet and I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing...LOL!  I did teach her to sit, lay down, stay (well....kind of), so I have accomplished something with Sophie!  Other than that....nothing!  It'll get better....right?!

Some Things I Can't Control.....But Other Things I Can!

My weekend was an exhausting one, to say the least.  My mom and I spent 12 hours (from 7pm Fri night to 7am Sat morning) in the emergency room with Matthew waiting for the doctors to make a decision on how they were going to treat him.  Matthew is 7 years old and has a history of constipation/distended belly/extremely dilated colon, etc.  At the age of 4 he had surgery which resulted in an illeostomy.  At the age of 5 1/2 the procedure was reversed because his colon had made such wonderful progress.  For 2 years, Matthew was doing incredibly well, but as of 3 weeks ago, it's deja vu' all over again.  The same symptoms are coming back and it scary to think of the possiblity that Matthew will have to undergo yet another surgery.  I have a follow-up appointment with the specialist on Thursday and am hoping and praying that he will reassure me that everything is fine.  Fingers crossed!
Having been through so much with all my kids, medically speaking, it re-enforces how lucky I am to have the opportunity to work from home.  Not only does it allow me the flexibility I need to work around my childrens' schedules, but I am learning so much about natural health alternatives, which enables me to provide a safer, healthier home for my family!  Certain aspects of my childrens health is completely out of my hands and left in Gods!  However, the one thing I CAN control is what I allow into my home, which I why I choose to provide my family with safe, non-toxic products, and healthy food choices, which has benefited the health of my family on so many different levels!
If you are intested in learning about safer, healthier alternatives, I would recommend visiting http://www.ahealthcafe4u.info/.  This site is packed with very valuable information!

Miraculously, I AM Surviving School Vacation Week!

It's "hump" day a/k/a Wednesday!  Woo-hoo!  To my amazement, I have made it half way through February vacation week with my three, ever-so-rambunctious boys and one very demanding puppy!  Let me tell ya...having 3 boys close in age is no easy feat!  They are very competative with each other, whether it be who gets dressed the fastest, who runs the furthest, who plays Wii better, etc!  You name it, they compete for the title of "The Best!"  Sometimes it's fun competition like who can find mom's keys, or who can find the missing sock, etc., but most of the time it's hardcore competition that not even the toughest of referree's can control!  But, as much as they compete and disagree and argue and fight and..............they love each other and help each other and are always there for each other!  With all that said.....and as bad as it sounds.....I CAN'T WAIT for vacation to be over!  I love my kids....but momma needs a break!

Beware of the Toxins you Have Under Your Kitchen Sink

Many people want to learn about the potential health hazards that everyday cleaning and personal care products can have on their health.   Environmental and advocacy groups are on a mission to elimate the use of toxic products in hospitals, schools and many other public buildings.  The toxins found in cleaning and personal care products have been linked to allergies, asthma, cancer, skin conditions, upper respiratory problems, among many other health challenges.  It is so important to educate yourselves on these potential health problems and do something to change it.  Please view the link below to learn more about the harmful affects that such products can have on your health and the environment.  Take a stand to make a change!

Working from Home and Loving It!

How many people can say they LOVE their job?  I get up every morning and "commute" to my home office!  That's right!  I work from the comfort of my own home!  It allows me the flexibility to work around my kids schedules and to have much needed family time!  It also helps that I love what I do!  I represent a wellness company which manufactures safer, healthier, natural products!  These products have had a wonderful affect on my families overall health, from severly dry skin to allergies, etc.  I no longer have to worry about my children getting into the products or breathing in toxic vapors while I'm cleaning my house!  My boys love helping me clean now because they know the products are safe!  What more could a parent ask for, then to provide their family with a safe, healthy home environment!  The personal care products are wonderful, too!  My family's skin has never been better due to the amazing bath and personal care products!  My boys love using the kids shampoo and bodywash!  They always smell delicious after shower-time!  Oh, and lets not forget about the energy level of myself and my husband!  My husband absolutely swears by the vitamins!  He works a very demanding, labor-intensive job and he says that he's never felt better!  The vitamins work wonders for me, too!  I can get through my "work" day and still have plenty of "pep-in-my-step" during and after supper!  And, after I put the kids to bed, I still have enough in me to clean-up my house!  It's GREAT!!!  I love helping others learn about the wonderful benefits of these products!

Finally Back to Normal

Last week was the longest, most exhausting week EVER!  I came down with the stomach bug on Monday and Tuesday, so my husband, Dan, took Tuesday off from work to help me with some appointments that were scheduled for the kids.  Dan drove 45 minutes to one appointment to find out that the appointment wasn't on that day, it was the following Tuesday (today!).  He took my step-daughter, Tara, to an appointment that was 30 minutes away, only to find out that her appointment was the following day.  Ugh!  Needless to say he made two wasted trips....poor guy!  How did I get the appointment dates wrong?  I NEVER mess up like that when it comes to the kids appointments.  Well, never say never, I guess.  I finally recovered from the stomach bug, only to have my youngest son, Blake, who is 4, and my oldest son Matthew, who is 7, get the bug at the same time!  Yikes!  Poor little pumpkins were absolutely miserable and there nothing I could do to make them feel better, which is a terrible feeling.  A mom should always know how to comfort their children and make them feel better, and I just couldn't!  Awful!  We made it through the week without my middle son, Luke who is 6, getting the bug (knock on wood!), and Tara, too.  Come Friday night, however, my poor husband ended up with....yup....you guessed it....the "bug!"  Poor guy was up all night.  He slept most of the morning on Saturday and by early afternoon started to feel a little better!  But wait...it doesn't end there....Matthew has an ongoing medical issue with his stomach/colon.  When he was 4 years old he had an illeostomy and when he was 5 years old, the procedure was reversed because he had made such great progress.  Well, come Thursday, Matthew's poor little belly was starting to look distended and he was very uncomfortabe.  Friday, the poor little guy was even worse, and Saturday, my husband aned I took him to Childrens Hospital in Boston to the ER because of severe stomach pains and distended belly.  We were in the ER for about 4-5 hours getting x-rays, talking to the doctors, etc.  The doctors, along with me and my husband decided the best thing was to admit Matthew for treatment to "clean him out."  A conclusion was drawn that a virus had hit Matthew and his body reacted by slowing down and not functioning the way it should, which is what caused his belly to distend and fill with gas!  Ouch!  Needless to say, it was a long weekend for me, but especially Matthew.  He was so good and so brave in the hospital!  Matthew has been through SO much in his short life, and I'm just happy that he's doing better and that we're finally home!!

My Weekend in a Nutshell

Morning All!  I am pretty groggy this morning...trying desperately to recover from my very busy weekend!  My brother and nephew spent the weekend at my house.  Friday night the boys had a "sleep over" in the same bedroom.  We pushed the beds together to make one big bed so the boys could hang out next to each other.  There wasn't too much comotion or rowdiness, but there was quite a bit of laughing, which I loved listening to!  Satudray morning I made pancakes and bacon (well, my brother made the bacon because I have a tendency to burn it...into a dust like state...LOL), while my husband went food shopping.  The boys had a nice spread of food and juice, which was very tasty!  After a fun, but noisy morning, my brother and I met my dad for lunch!  Oh....we had a great time....laughing, joking, drinking and eating!  My in-laws picked the boys up for another "sleep over" at their house so my hubby and I could have a nice night out together.  We went to see an 80's coverband (who we happen to be friends with!), with a group of friends!  We had an absolute BLAST.....dancing and singing the night away!!!  Needless to say....Sunday was suppose to be the "day of rest" so to speak!  The kids came home around 11:30am, fighting and arguing broke-out between them, I was dragging all day long from shear exhaustion....but it was well worth it for a much needed night of fun!

Thank Goodness it's Friday

Yay!  We made it through another week!  I have lots and lots of cleaning to do today to prepare for my brother and nephew to be spending the weekend with me and my family!  My 3 boys absolutey love seeing their older cousin (he's 17)!  There is a lot of wrestling taking place, tackle football (in the house mind you!) and then there are the infamous video games being played with the utmost excitement, a.k.a yelling, cheering, arguing...you get the picture.  We plan on getting lots of take-out tonight and having a fun "sleep-over" weekend!  However, before the fun begins, I have the never-ending pile(s) of laundry to do, vacuuming, dusting, washing, all the fun activities that come with home ownership and motherhood!  Hooray for me!  Wishing you all a very happy Friday!

"Now I lay me down to sleep......"

.....I wish!  It's only10:40pm and I feel completely and utterly exhausted, like I haven't slept in days!  The pounding headache and throbbing eyes are making it almost impossible to post this blog!  Hmmm....so...why don't I just go to bed, you ask?  Well...this is what I like to call "me" time.  Something I only get when all my kids are fast asleep, including the dog, and my husband is off to bed!  I will force myself to stay up just so I can enjoy being "alone" with my thoughts, or surfing the net, or watching really bad reality t.v.!  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my kids and my husband to pieces, but it's nice to have time just for me, too.  Tomorrow, however, I will pay for it...as I am NOT a morning person, in the least.  I confess that I HATE getting up in the morning, being spoken to, looked at, gestured towards, anything...LOL!  It's awful I know, but seriously...it will set the tone for the whole day if I'm bothered first thing in the morning...and just to clarify, I need a good 2 hours to wake up...haha!  My poor husband and kids...it's amazing that they put up with it and accept it...then again, they don't have a choice!  I do try really, REALLY hard to put on a happy face in the morning for my kids, though...they are just so sweet and I just want to smother them all with kisses and hugs and thankfully they still let me!  Three boys letting their mom smother them with hugs and kisses...gotta love that!  Well...off to take a little "me" time before heading off to count sheep!  Good Night!

Good Morning

Bravo to me!  I actually went to the gym this morning for an hour AND took my dog out for 15 minute walk around the neighborhood!!  Yay!  I feel very proud of myself, seeing as how I haven't been to the gym in a LONG time!  Well...in about 45 minutes I'm off to pick my youngest up from preschool.  I can't wait to hear about what he did today.  He is very animated when telling me what goes on in school...the good and the bad!  But, for now, I have mountains of laundry that needs to be folded and put away.  UGH!  I think the worst part about laundry is having to put it all away.  It's tedious to me.  Oh well...ya gotta do what ya gotta do.  Hope you all have a wonderful day!  Off to do laundry!

My Time IS Valuable....Why Don't People Get This?!

I'm a very busy person.  I schedule my day around my kids, my business and my personal life.  Nothing irritates me more than scheduling an "office" meeting/interview only to have the person leave the "room!"  After spending nearly 25 minutes helping my prospect into the online virtual office (it usually takes no more than 2 minutes!), and showing my prospect how and where to communicate with me and others in the room, and explaining that I will do a follow-up call directly after our appoinment, my prospect exited the room.... after no more than 5 minutes of listening!  It was the very, very beginning of the informational interview process.  I tried calling my prospect 2x to see if perhaps they were having technical difficulty, but I was NOT successful!  I couldn't even leave a voicemail as the mailbox was full!  Argh!  I wish people would take my time seriously!  I am a mother and a business owner (well...new business owner) and my time is precious!

Let's Start Over

Ok...I'm going to start all over!  I was sitting here (well....I'm still sitting here) thinking about how I can make my blog interesting.  Like I said yesterday, I am VERY new at blogging (as I'm sure you noticed) and am trying hard to figure out how I can keep in interesting!  People enjoy reading about other peoples lives (I know I do!), whether it be funny, sad, annoying...whatever....so I decided, that is exactly what I'm going to do....this is going to be the story of "My Life....For Better or For Worse!"  Stay tuned.......!

I'm New to Blogging....Bare with Me!

I am so new to blogging....I'm a "virgin" blogger if you will!  However, I am slowly but surely getting the hang of it.  I want to keep the reader interested and intrigued with my posts w/out overwhelming them with too much information.  I will be talking about things that are important to me, such as my family and health and wellness.  I struggle in those areas, don't get me wrong...but I'm always willing to pick myself up and continue moving forward, for myself and my family!

Exercise! Exercise! Exercise!

We all know how important exercising is in order to maintain health and physical fitness.  But, have you ever wondered what your workout says about you?  I never gave it a second thought until I came across the article "What Does Your Workout Say About You?"  Well, I've come to realize that not only do I need excitement and intensity in my workout regime, but I also need someone in my face yelling at me, pushing me and not giving up on me!  If I am left to my own discretion, chances are, I wouldn't go to the gym, and even if I did, I wouldn't push myself the way I need to be pushed.  I have to take a stand and come to terms with the fact that my health and wellness are important just as much as anyone elses.  I need to finally put my foot down and dedicate to take care of myself!

I recommend everyone take a look at this link to see what type of "workout" personality you have and work really hard to exceed it or to maintain it!

My "Why"

Ok, I sit here and contemplate how and when I'm going to start to take control of my physical and emotional well-being.  Yes, I want to lose weight!  Yes, I want to exercise more!  Yes, I want to be more emotionally available for my family!  But how?  What am I going to do differently?  Why is this year going to be "the" year for me to make change.  The longer I sit here, the more I realize that the most important reason to take care of "me" is my family.  If I'm not taking care of "me," then how can I take care of my family?  I want to have the energy to play with my kids!  I want to teach them the importance of taking care of themselves.  This is it!  The time is now!  I will commit myself to eating healthier and control my portion sizes.  I will commit myself to exercising at least 3 days per week.  I am going to educate myself on safe, natural alternatives to achieve my weight-loss goals, which will result in a happier, healthier "me" and a happier healthier life with my family!

Here's to a Better You!

Well, here we are, the start of a New Year...a time for many to start fresh or resolve to get out of debt, eat healthier, exercise more, improve their mental well-being, to basically make a positive change in their lives and/or environment.  We all have that certain "thing" we want to change about ourselves, our struggles, even our environment.  Many don't know where to start or how to start (I use to be one of them!) and ultimately, never start!  So, I am here to say "you can do it!"  Anything you put your mind to can be accomplished with hard work, perserverance, determination and faith!  Be confident, be positive and be enthusiastic about changing your life, for the better!

Did you Know.....?

  • Cleaning products are necessary for maintaining attractive and healthful conditions in the home and workplace. In addition to the obvious aesthetic benefits of cleaning, the removal of dust, allergens, and infectious agents is crucial to maintaining a healthful indoor environment. But cleaning products can present several health and environmental concerns. (epa.gov)
  • Certain chemicals in common cleaning products have been associated with increased prevalence of asthma, exacerbations of asthma symptoms, and respiratory ailments. (womanandenvironment.org)
  • We live in a world polluted by toxins. We're exposed to pesticides and carcinogens in the foods we eat and the clothes we wear; in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the substances we use to clean our houses. The deadly chemical cocktail building up in our bodies is causing us great harm, manifesting itself in... everything from asthma to cancer. (msnbc.msn.com w/enviromentalist Deirdre Imus)
  • Exposure to household toxins is linked to just about every disease that we know of, most notably cancer. Numerous animal studies have linked many of the more than 24,000 toxins that exist in our environment to negative health effects on the following systems: Cardiovascular; Nervous; Endocrine; Respiratory; Reproductive; Immune (drbenkim.com)
  • The Consumer Product Safety Commission connects 150 chemicals commonly found in our homes to allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological disorders.

Starting 2010 Off Right!

Every year, since my kids were born, I've always said "this is going to be the year for change." I had no idea what that change would be, but I knew I wanted to make one. I knew I wanted to make a change that would benefit me and my family. A change that would provide us with a better, brighter future. So, here I am, 7 1/2 years later and I finally realized what that "change" was going to be when I was presented with an amazing opportunity. I was educated on the importance of "green" products and how much safer and healthier they are over the products you buy in the store. I was educated on the harmful and dangerous affects that "toxins" in everyday household and beauty products can have on my health and the health of my family. It scared me to think, that while I thought I was providing a safe, clean, healthy, happy home for my family, I was actually polluting my home environment with dangerous toxins that could potentially have a detrimental affect on my families overall health. It was clear to me at that point that not only did I want to provide my family with a safer, healthier home by switching to "green" products, but I also wanted to help educate others on the importance of using "green" products, too. My mission is to spread awareness on the importance of providing natural, safe, healthy products that will benefit the home and the environment.
